2018 ISA World SUP & Paddleboard Championships had successfully been conducted in Hainan. ISA Vice President Casper Steinfath delivered a speech at the closing ceremony in the Shenzhou Peninsula in Wanning. He also looked forward to the future of SUP sport.

Australian team strongly won the ISA World Championship team gold medal after winning the relay race in the morning. This is the sixth time they won the team gold medal since their seventh time participation.

With the rapid development of paddleboard and SUP sports in Asia, ISA decided to hold the ISA World SUP & Paddleboard Championships in Asia the very first time. This year, 196 athletes from 26 countries and regions participated in the competition. Team China, Chinese Taipei and Iran participated in the ISA competition for the first time and competed with the world-class top paddlers.

Due to logistic and visa issues, this year’s event (196 athletes in 26 countries) is on a smaller scale compared to the one in Denmark last year (286 athletes in 42 countries), but it still showed the paddlers’ exquisite skills and spirit.

After ten days of competition, we have seen lots of rooms of improvement for Asia paddlers compared to the world-class paddlers. Quoting the words from Wen Jinfu, athlete from Team China, “We are not afraid of losing, but we have to progress.” This is the ambition of the newborn calf not afraid of the tiger, but also the passion of SUP sport in the future.

The development of the SUP sport in Asia is still a toddler, we’re exploring and growing with unexpected surprises and fun.

In the upcoming year, Asia SUP Tour will organize Asia SUP Tour 2019 at 5 different stations in Asia, aiming to collaborate with different clubs to promote SUP sports in Asia countries and meanwhile finding Asia SUP Hero via Asia SUP Tour 2019.
